# Optimising video

### Overview

Before uploading video you should always make sure that the file has been optimised. Optimising your video will save you money in storage and bandwidth costs, as well as improving the experience for your websites users.

### HandBrake

We recommend HandBrake as it's free and works on all major platforms, you can download it [here](https://handbrake.fr/).

Once you've downloaded the app, these are the settings that we suggest that you use:

[▶ **Normal** preset with **Web optimized** ticked.](https://cache.dpg.media/hyqelgcvfopo/videos/620e9f88-6326-11e6-9817-aab69d8b7bb7/2fd1746f-961d-4397-a03e-78f11c67ed2d.mp4)

### Compressor

If you are a [Final Cut Pro X](https://geo.itunes.apple.com/gb/app/final-cut-pro/id424389933?mt=12&at=11lHw9) user you may prefer [Compressor](https://geo.itunes.apple.com/gb/app/compressor/id424390742?mt=12&at=11lHw9).
