Basics - Getting started with the admin

If you're new to using Digital Photo Gallery, this article will take you through the basics of the admin system.

Think of the admin as your main DPG hub. This is where you'll upload and manage your content, create and update websites and blogs, or check your statistics.

The other part of DPG is called Accounts. This is where you go to update payment and billing details, manage users and change passwords.

Dashboard

The Dashboard is your starting point when you log in to your account. Here, you can see an overview of your account status and navigate to other parts of the admin.

Uploading

The first thing you will probably want to do is upload some content.

DPG works best with full-resolution images and will create special website versions to make your work look its best across all devices.

Make sure that you don't strip EXIF and Metadata when exporting images from your editing software, as DPG uses this information for things like image credits and statistics.

This is the upload screen. Click the Add button or drag and drop your images onto the largest white area and click the Upload button.

Working with your images

Under the Images tab in the main navigation, you'll find several ways to browse your uploads. Recently unloaded content will appear in Recent Images, where you can also see it large in the individual view.

The side panel on the right of the screen will be one of the main ways you interact with your images in the admin. This is where you add titles and descriptions, keywords and add images to sets.

Organising your content

You can organise your images in DPG by using sets and keywords.

Sets work like folders on your computer. You can make sets within sets - called nested sets - and an image can be in multiple sets at the same time.

Websites you create in DPG are based on sets which are linked to pages, so updating your site is as simple as adding your images to a set.

Keywords are useful for organising you images, whether it's just for yourself or to help your website visitors find what they're looking for. You can also add keywords in your editing software which will be imported on upload.

Websites

Once you've got some of your content into DPG, you probably want to show it off! DPG allows you to easily make and update your websites for lots of different purposes.

The website section of the admin will be where you go to create and maintain your sites.

With DPG you can make multiple sites from the same account, which means that you can use different websites for different styles of work. You can also create Client Areas

Once you've made your first site, the Website screen is your starting point for everything from editing the design, to adding your own domain name.

The website screen also shows you the linked sets, so you can always find them easily.

This is also where you create and configure new pages, for anything from galleries, to blogs and text pages.
